Our Students

Our students come from all around the world. They have two things in common: a passion for the Italian language and a desire to practice, practice, practice their conversational skills.

From absolute beginners to advanced speakers, students enjoy the benefits of small classes with peers of same level and similar interests. Each class provides bespoke teaching based specifically on each group’s needs in order to maximise each student’s progress.

“Two weeks of daily lessons took us from zero Italian to a position where we now feel confident launching into conversation in Italian – not English – in shops, bars, cafes or just on the street. Thanks to Diego, Marta, Lucia and Jacopo for getting us this far – such warm, fun, collaborative and engaging lessons! And thanks to the others in our group who helped make learning this beautiful language such a pleasure!”

“I did a week of classes here and had a truly wonderful time. The teachers are excellent and I was so impressed at how much we got through in a short time. As a beginner, I really didn’t expect to learn as much as I did. The school has a super friendly vibe and everyone is made to feel at home. It was something really special to do while visiting the beautiful city of Venice”.

“I contacted Venice Italian School to inquire about the program. After lovely email exchanges, in which Diego asked about my particular interests and my level of language proficiency, Diego recommended a small group that would match my needs. I could not have been happier with my experience! Not only was the group a good match but the quality of instruction excellent. I especially appreciated Lucia’s ability to incorporate grammar points as we engaged in natural conversation. What makes Venice Italian School so special is the generous and caring attention given to students. Classes are held in the family home which makes for a very personal experience. My only complaint is that it was only one week!”

“Thanks so much to Diego and the team for a wonderful 4 weeks of Italian classes. The classes were in a family home which made everything informal and welcoming. The lessons were such fun and stimulating and the emphasis was on encouraging us to talk and improving our vocabulary and grammar with the use of comptemporary material. This is just what I needed. From what I heard when talking to others who attended and we were indeed encouraged to be friendly with all those attending, the beginners through to those with more advanced skills had nothing but praise for the teaching. I would recommend anyone wanting to learn Italian to come and do so in Venice – a most beautiful and exciting city and especially to take classes at this unique school”.

Madeleine Richardson, London, UK – Ottobre 2015

“I would like to express my grateful appreciation to Diego and Lucia for a truly excellent learning experience last week. It was exactly what I had hoped for.
I’ve come home hearing Italian in my head and have found my speaking fluency has improved significantly, which was my main goal.
Everyone at your school is extremely nice and helpful which makes learning so much easier. I look forward to returning”.

“2 weeks spent in a pleasant environment with like minded people all seeking to improve their knowledge and their use of “la bella lingua”. If that is what you are looking for Diego’s school in wonderful Venice is for you.
I spent 2 weeks there and it exceeded all my expectations. I did not become a fluent Italian speaker but I did gain confidence in the use of and broadened my knowledge of Italian. Skilled and patient teachers, well organised small classes and pleasant surroundings in the centre of my favourite city. I will ensure that I go back and would recommend the school to anyone who wishes to learn in a professional and sympathetic environment”.

Sheila Gibbs, Glasgow, UK – September 2015

“I stayed a month at the school and was so glad I made this choice. The school is small and intimate; the lessons are intensive; the emphasis is on speaking and comprehending. Class size is really important here, a maximum of six in the group; (my last week there were just two of us), gives you every chance to participate and learn. The teachers, Lucia and Jacopo were both fantastic: highly enjoyable, engaging and knowledgeable. I particularly appreciated their well-considered class strategies. Can’t speak too highly of this school and I hope to be back soon”.

“I wanted to attend a course in Italy to speed up my learning of the language and I chose this school on the basis of the location and the small class sizes. I have previously attended courses (in the UK) with around 10-12 people and the problem is that you really don’t get to speak enough. I came to Venice in June and did one week with 3 other students. Very useful and enjoyable, so much so that I returned for 2 weeks in September. This time I did a group class together with a private lesson in the afternoon. This amount of study and conversation really moved my Italian to another level and I hope to come back and do the same again soon. Can highly recommend the school and the teachers”.

“I highly recommend the Venice Italian School to anyone looking for a small, friendly school with very high standards in a beautiful city. I enjoyed my time at the school very much and made great progress. The classes were small and the ambiance delightful. The teachers (Lucia, Jacapo and Diego) were well prepared, approachable and encouraging, and the lessons imaginative and varied, not to mention relaxed and fun. I took both a 2 week class and some individual lessons and was very pleased with the progress I made. A bonus was two wonderful cookery classes which were top class and the results deliziosi. Maybe next time I will be brave enough for the Venetian rowing class, Diego”.

“I was looking for an intensive course in italian with focus on speaking and vocabulary expansion, and I found The Venice Italian School in San Polo in Venice. I had one-to-one classes and felt that I improved my italian a lot.The teachers Diego, Lucia and Jacopo are very competent and patient. The school is situated in a nice and friendly family house with a very professional teaching environment. They also helped me find a place to live, I could choose between B&B or apartments with nice prices. I wish I could have stayed longer at this perfect place for learning italian – Thank You!
I will definitely return next year”.

Marianne Schibb, Oslo, Norway – May 2015

“I absolutely loved my time at the Venice Italian School this Spring. It is a perfect place for adult language learners with small classes and excellent teachers. The school will help you find a place to live while you are there, and I loved my apartment in Venice. The school is creative and flexible in trying to accomodate each student’s needs. It was a fun and worthwhile two weeks, and I hope to go back soon! I highly recommend this school to anyone serious about learning Italian!”
