What’s coming up at VIS

Ciao a tutti!

The quieter season is beginning in Venice. The days are getting shorter and the city is finding a different rhythm. It’s a time of year we love: an invitation to stay a little longer, look around and make room for a conversation.

At VIS, we have a few things prepared for the coming months. Our Winter Weeks give you another reason to stay in Venice and make more time for your Italian. With Exclusive Italian, your curiosity shapes the programme: history, food, art or another side of the city you would like to understand better.

And if you’d like to share a little of the VIS experience with someone you care about, you can now explore our Gift Vouchers on a dedicated page on our website. Christmas is still a little way off, we know. But there’s no harm in gathering a few ideas already.

Before all that, we’re also celebrating our 16th birthday from November 9–13.

Read on for the details – and a few good reasons to see each other again soon.

Winter weeks

When Venice slows down

Venice is different in winter.

The days are shorter. The light is softer. Sometimes mist settles over the canals. The campi become quieter, and in the calli you start to hear footsteps, voices and church bells again.

The city breathes differently – fewer crowds, more everyday life, more time to look a little closer. A particularly good time to practice Italian.

More time for Venice. More time for your Italian.

Museums, churches and palazzi can be explored at a calmer pace. In bars and small restaurants, there is more time for a conversation. And the cultural life of the city continues – theatre, concerts and exhibitions are very much part of Venice in winter.

Hotels and other accommodation are often considerably cheaper during these weeks than in the busy high season.

A good reason to stay a little longer – and invest some of the savings in a little more Italian.

Our Winter Special

From 30 November 2026 to 12 March 2027, we would like to give you one more reason to spend more time in Venice – and with your Italian.*

Once you book at least one week, you benefit in two ways:

Stay for a second week

Your second week costs €250 instead of €310.

€250

Add individual lessons

90 minutes cost €75 instead of €90 – during your first week, your second week, or both.

€75

So you can learn in your Mini Group in the morning and spend some extra time in the afternoon working individually on the things that matter most to your Italian at that moment.

Venice in winter is a different city: quieter, more immediate, closer to everyday life – just the way we love it.

Discover another side of Venice and give your Italian a little more time with us.

* From 23 January to 9 February, Venice is in Carnival season. Our Winter Special also applies during this period, but accommodation prices are usually considerably higher.

New at VIS

Exclusive Italian

You tell us what interests you. We connect it with your Italian.

Have you ever been curious about how Venice became one of the most powerful cities in the world – and what remains of that history today?

Do you dream of preparing Venetian food yourself and learning more about the traditional recipes, ingredients and stories behind it?

Would you like to understand more about Venetian art and architecture? Learn voga veneta on the lagoon? Meet people who keep old crafts alive? Talk about football with someone who knows the game? Or find out what everyday life in Venice really looks like today?

Our new format Exclusive Italian brings all of these – and many more – possibilities into your Italian course.

Exclusive Italian

One format, many possibilities

Exclusive Italian is much more than a language course.

It is an individual discovery built around your interests and your level of Italian. If there is something you have always wanted to know or do in Venice, tell us. We will see how we can make it part of your Italian.

History, food, art, architecture, craftsmanship, sport, life on the lagoon or contemporary Venice can all become the starting point for your Exclusive Italian experience.

Spend a few hours concentrating on one subject. Take a whole day to go deeper. Or follow a theme over several days, meeting different people, visiting different places and looking at it from different perspectives.

Your tutor

Your personal tutor at your side

Throughout your Exclusive Italian experience, your personal tutor stays at your side.

Before each meeting, visit or activity, your tutor prepares the appropriate language and cultural context to help you fully understand and interact. During the experience, your tutor accompanies you every step of the way, supporting you as you use the language, and quickly adapting to your learning style: what you do best and where you need support.

Within a short time, your tutor will understand much more than just your language level: he/she will know which words you are looking for, where you struggle, when you are afraid of making mistakes, and which topics make you want to express yourself the most.

A question that comes up in the morning can become part of your lesson in the afternoon. A word you were missing during a conversation comes back later. Something you didn’t quite understand is revisited and explored more deeply.

The course develops with you as the day goes on. That changes both the way you learn and how quickly you can progress.

Encounters

People who have something to tell you

We love and we know Venice, and we know the people who understand the city from the inside and want to share their knowledge about its history, traditions and contemporary life with you.

A historian. A chef. An artisan. A guide. A sports trainer. Someone whose work, knowledge or story connects with what you want to discover.

You listen, ask questions, join the conversation and use your Italian for something you genuinely want to understand.

Exclusive Italian

What you see, hear and talk about becomes part of your Italian.

Bring along your curiosity

We bring the language, the people and the time to explore it properly.

Spend a few hours with us, take a whole day, or follow a subject over several days. We plan each programme individually, starting with your Italian, what interests you and the time you want to spend in Venice with us. Each programme is individually crafted and quoted.

Somewhere along the way, Italian stops being something you study and becomes the language you use to understand more, ask more and take part.

So tell us: what have you always wanted to know about Venice – and talk about in Italian?

Gift vouchers

A gift that stays with you

Christmas is still a little way off. But perhaps you already know someone who would like to learn Italian, return to Venice or take another course with us.

With VIS Gift Vouchers, you can give a week in a Mini Group in Venice, an Online Mini-Group Course, Online Individual Lessons or a voucher for an amount of your choice.

For Christmas, a birthday, an anniversary or simply as a thoughtful gift for someone you care about. A gift that can live on in a new conversation, in the people they meet during a course or in the memories of a week in Venice.

You can now find all the options and information to help you choose your gift on a dedicated page on our website.

November 9–13, 2026

VIS Birthday Week

A few places remain for our 16th birthday celebrations: Italian in our Mini Groups, encounters and walks in Venice and La Grande Festa. We’d love to have you here!

A presto

A longer stay, a curiosity to follow, a gift or a celebration together: there are plenty of ways to join us at VIS in the coming months.

A presto da Venezia,

Diego, Lucia & the Venice Italian School Team
